My thought were I would watch this three develop and grow together. Use their friendship to be there for each other and protect one another. Like they show in the first couple episodes.
I was in for quite the surprise when episode 5 air and complete shock. Similar to Game of Throwns were someone I thought was major character dies. The after effect of this even sent shockwave through all other characters. Specially how close the relationship between Eren and Mikasa is/was.
Episode 6 goes into the details how this two became friends and how Mikasa held a very dear relation with Eren. Watching the episode knowing what happen on episode 5 make wonder how this strong girl yet with very soft heart would respond to the death of Eren made feel sad for her.
At point of darkness when we feel the most along and despair sink in. Some give up hope and surrender to their fate. 
Is the real test just how strong one can be. I'm happy that Mikasa was able whether unknowingly or knowning have the sense or desire to live. Continue to fight and to stay alive in this despair world she live in.
I'm looking forward to see Mikasa grow and develop her character, I hope! Finger cross!
There is one other event that happen in this episode that is not quite clear but I'll just wait to be surprise how they explain it future episode.
